Lake District village dubbed ‘most beautiful’ is a food lovers ‘must-visit’ destination | Travel News | Travel

Renowned for its gourmet cuisine, Cartmel is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for travellers seeking relaxation and indulgence.

The picturesque village is situated in the serene embrace of the Lake District, but its tranquillity is briefly disrupted once a year for a bustling medieval fair.

The festival has long charmed visitors, as it promises a journey back in time with guided tours of the historical villages, the old priory bell tower and ancient choir stalls.

The square fills with crowds entertained with performances from medieval minstrels and juggling jesters on stilts. A parade of Cartmel Friesian Black Horses also clatters through the village, ridden by armour-clad knights.

In the 15th century, monks conceived the tradition of horse racing at Cartmel Racecourse, set against the backdrop of the Lakeland Fells. Visitors can also partake in the sport today for an adrenalin kick.

The restaurant’s focus on local produce has earned it an important place on the map of farm-to-table gastronomy.

Visitors often leave Cartmel enamoured with its surroundings and leave promising reviews on social media platforms like TiikTok.

A content creator who uses the username Kiera on TikTok described Cartmel as the “most beautiful little village” in the lake district.

Travel sites, including Visit Lake District, have dubbed the village as “one of the prettiest in all of Cumbria,” describing it as a picture-postcard destination.

Holiday Cottages Cumbria confirm: “Cartmel Valley is a food lovers ‘must go to’ destination [as it offers] a wealth of great food produces, pubs, cafes and food shops.”
