Cupra preparing updated best-seller | CarExpert

Cupra is gearing up to reveal an updated take on its best-selling Formentor SUV, along with a refreshed Leon hatchback.

The fresh looks were previewed at a Spanish event way back in June 2022, but will finally make their formal debuts on Tuesday, April 30, and are expected to hit Australia in the first half of 2025.

Based on today’s teaser image, and the previews from 2022, the Formentor and Leon will get revised bumpers and lights up front and down back.

Gone are the flowing LED lighting signatures from both ends, replaced with an aggressive triangle motif. The bumpers on the cars shown off in 2022 also borrow from the new Tavascan electric car, which will hit Australia in 2025.

The current Leon and Formentor were only introduced in 2020 in Europe, with the Born following late in 2021.

The Cupra brand hit Australia in 2022, and currently offers the Leon hatch, Ateca and Formentor SUVs, and the Born electric car.

It’s unclear what other changes we can expect from these models, though updated infotainment systems appear likely given the Volkswagen and Skoda brands are rolling out larger touchscreens.

Power comes from a choice of 2.0-litre petrol engines, or plug-in hybrid powertrains currently not offered elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group family locally.
