The 77th Cannes Film Festival has announced the winners in the ‘In Competition’ category, and Indian cinema has a big reason to cheer. Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light won the Grand Prix Jury award, the first Indian film ever to do so. The film, about two Malayali immigrant nurses in Mumbai, was also the first Indian film to be screened in the category in 30 years; Shaji N Karun’s Swaham (which was also in Malayalam) in 1994 was the previous Indian film to achieve this. All We Imagine as Light featured Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon in its cast. Cannes 2024: Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light Wins Grand Prix Jury Award, First Indian Film to Do So!
