UK holidaymakers are being hit with a passport price hike just as the summer travel rush approaches.

From Thursday, April 11, the cost of obtaining a UK passport has increased across the board.

The price for an adult standard application has risen by £6, now costing £88.50, up from the previous fee of £82.50. Meanwhile, the cost for a child’s passport has escalated to £57.50 from £53.50.

Postal applications have also seen a bump in fees; adults will now have to fork out £100 instead of £93, and for children, the new price is £69, previously £64.

Those opting for the fast-track service, which guarantees a passport within a week, will face a charge of £166.50 for adults, increasing from £155, and for children, the cost is now £135.50, up by £9.50. For urgent passport services, where you receive your passport at the appointment, the fee has soared from £193.50 to £207.50.

The Gov. UK website advises that standard passport applications should result in receiving the document within three weeks, reports the Liverpool Echo.

However, the Passport Office warns: “It may take longer than 3 weeks if we need more information, or we need to interview you.”

They assure applicants, “We’ll tell you this within 3 weeks.”
